In the course of the last twenty + years
Jan Cambrige has been interpretering for Merseyside and Cheshire Police since 1984, prior to the advent of DPSI and the National Register, and in that capacity has worked in Court and in Police Stations.
Jan also has extensive experience of interpreting in asylum cases for both the Immigration and Nationality Directorate (IND) and the Immigration Appeals Tribunal (IAT). She has worked widely in Magistrates’ Courts, Crown and County Courts, particularly the Family Courts. Jan has been engaged in this work by the courts themselves, and by defence teams preparing a defendant's case.
Jan has worked in many different settings from large factories, to board rooms, Crown Court, Immigration hearings and Hospitals.
Jan has taught Spanish to all sorts of adults, and has developed that, since studying linguistics in 1996-97, into giving communication skills training for people working across language and culture - both people working in a single language (English) and those working with interpreters.

Research project, "Information Exchange in Bilingual Medical Interviews".
A video-recording was made of simulated interviews between practising GP's and volunteer patients, using interpreters. This provided data for discourse analysis.
